This is our blog we started in January 2007 in anticipation of our impending move to the UK in March 2007. We shall attempt to chronicle our travels and experiences together in the UK…and beyond.

I just stumbled across your blog today. Keep up the good work. My wife and I are plotting a move to the Uk from the US in a few years are your site is filled with invaluable information. Good Luck!

Thanks Jonathan. Glad you found our blog helpful. We started this with the sole purpose of keeping our friends and family informed, but it’s great that others like you are stumbling across what we write and finding it useful. Best of luck with your decision making process with your potential move and also with your pending graduation from college.
By the way, had a look on your website. Great photos!

I just stumbled across your blog today. It’s great. Keep up the good work. I am also on working holiday and have just come into the country. I was wondering if I can get a permanent job with my visa. I have spoken to most people and they seem to only think that with this visa one can only do contracting/permanent job.
Thanks for your time.

sorry about the last line, that one can only do contracting or temporary work.

I sort of mentioned it here but only in a roundabout way. The real story with regards to the working holiday visa and getting a permanent job is that it depends on the company. Many will not give you a permanent job on the working holiday visa. That being said, some will sponsor a work permit if they want you badly enough and company policy does not allow for a permanent hire on a working holiday visa. I did get a permanent job offer however, so it’s not impossible. Just VERY difficult. Recruiters are also a problem as many will not bother taking it any further once they find out what visa you’re on and they are recruiting for a permanent job.

Not as much time as you think…and no it doesn’t eat into our 9-5 hours
