This was actually last week on Tuesday 1st May. We’d had a few meals in our place before, but they were either takeaway or ready made from the supermarket. So since Mimi was working, I thought I’d take the opportunity to cook a proper meal. Yes, I am capable of cooking. Don’t look so surprised.

We recently watched The F Word on Channel 4 and in that particular episode Gordon Ramsay served a steak dish with some mushrooms in a creamy sauce. I’ve just bothered to look for it and the recipe is here. At the time of course, we had no Internet access so I had to try to remember off the top of my head. I also had a hankering for steak so it worked nicely. Luckily for me, the recipe wasn’t too difficult.

I walked to the Waitrose near High Street Kensington and bought the ingredients I thought I needed:

  • Chives
  • Full cream
  • Mushrooms
  • Eggs
  • Parmesan cheese
  • Baby carrots
  • Baby potatoes
  • and of course, beef

I decided to buy one of the best cuts of beef I could find and settled for 2 smallish pieces of Angus Fillet Steak. Problem is that buying one of the best cuts means paying the price. 290g of meat for £9! I should note right now though, that it tasted great. I didn’t buy any garlic or olive oil because we already had some. I also didn’t bother cooking the potatoes because we figured that we had enough food without them.

Here are some pictures for those that like to watch.

All I can say is, whatever it lacked in presentation, it more than made up for in taste :)
